Abstract

This paper proposes a local edge extreme-based method to automatically measure the pitch length and surface braiding angle of braided preforms. The Lab space transform and an artistic edge and corner enhancing filter are used first to pre-process the original acquired images. An algorithm based on local edge extreme is then used to detect corners. Finally, the pitch lengths and surface braiding angles are measured based on the detected corner maps. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves automatic measurements of pitch lengths and surface braiding angles of biaxial braided carbon-fiber preforms with good accuracy.
