Abstract

PS, PE, PTFE and SPU irradiated with He, O and N ions at various doses and energy were characterized in terms of surface morphology, contact angle of water and chemical composition. Surface oxidation was observed in most cases after ion irradiation which contribute a lot to surface contact angle changes. The relatively hydrophilic surfaces showed improved resistance to platelet cell adhesion. The pseudopodia of the cells on ion irradiated surfaces with high ion dose implied the importance of morphology and chemical details of the surfaces.
