Abstract

We report the surface modification of laser-processed porous Ti with a bioactive TiO2 layer via an anodization process to enhance its osteoconductive properties. The 300 nm thick TiO2 layer had a nanoporous structure with pore diameters of 50 nm, which enhanced the ability to form apatite precipitations in simulated body fluids in vitro. The resulting new nano surface morphology of a bioactive TiO2 layer on these porous Ti samples promises to have a significant impact in reducing an implant’s in vivo healing time due to faster tissue integration.
