Abstract

Fibre reinforcement of a polymer matrix is an effective means of improving interfacial adhesion. In this work, plasma polymer films were deposited and characterized. Results are presented from IR spectroscopy, gas phase analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and contact angle measurements. The influence of layer thickness on mechanical data such as the tensile strength, Young's modulus and strain to failure of fibres was also investigated.
