Abstract

The long-range magnetic ordering at the surface of ultrathin epitaxial films of Cr, Mn, and Fe on Fe(1 0 0) has been studied by electron capture spectroscopy. The observed spin polarization indicates different magnetic orderings comprising parallel and antiparallel coupling of moments. Based on simple assumptions for electron capture, the layer- and coverage-dependent magnetization profile is estimated.
