Abstract

The mean residence time of U neutrals on hot polycrystalline tungsten surfaces has been determined as a function of surface temperature. The desorption parameters for U° were determined from the relationship 1 / τ = ω0exp(− Ea / kT) and found to be ω0 = (9.5 ± 4.5) × 1011sec−1 and Ea = 5.85 ± 0.10 eV. Oxygen contamination was found to have a profound effect on the W surface, with Ea being a sensitive function of the amount of oxygen present.
