Abstract

Abstract We propose a model of the terminated effective-mass superlattice (EMSL) with the image potential in the vacuum region. The energy spectrum of electronic states localized at the surface has been calculated for mini-gaps in the conduction band. Changing the thickness of the EMSL layers we have found three types of states in the mini-gap, located at the vacuum level V0. They are crystal induced states (surface states), image-potential induced states (image states), and “mixed” states exhibiting a character of both the surface and image states.
