Abstract

The mechanism of hardening the surface of titanium alloys in treatment with concentrated energy sources is investigated. The results of investigation of the hardening of specimens of VT1-0, VT 6 and VT14 alloys by the electric arc method are presented. It is shown that the microhardness of the surface layer of the hardened titanium alloys is more than doubled in comparison with the conventional hardening treatment.
