Abstract

The surface-enhanced Raman (SER) spectra of 3-aminosalicylic acid and 2-mercaptonicotinic acid on silver colloids were obtained. Comparison of the SER spectra with the spectra in solution, those of the solids and in one case of a silver complex are made. 3-Aminosalicylic acid (an O,N donor ligand) is thought to adsorb parallel to the silver surface while 2-mercaptonicotinic acid (an O,S donor ligand) lies perpendicular to the surface.
