Abstract
An experimental investigation of LY12R plate specimens with various notches under tensile fatigue loading has been carried out. In accordance with the a- N and c- N curves, a classification for the surface crack is proposed. Surface crack initiation, growth behaviour and surface crack threshold are studied. An empirical expression to predict the surface crack depth is obtained.
