Surface cleaning of IS-2062 E350 grade steel plates by shot blasting method

Abstract

This paper studies the effect of shot blasting cycle time on the surface roughness of the boom component of an excavator. Shot blasting cycle time of 8 min and 10 min did not give the required surface roughness. The suggested surface roughness for the boom component is around 50 μm and it was achieved with shot blasting cycle time of 12 min. It was also observed that the shot blasting time is directly proportional to the surface roughness of the boom component. However, beyond the cycle time of 12 min, not much variation was observed in the surface roughness.
