Abstract

Lithium drifted silicon planar detectors with surface barrier provided with evaporated gold guard ring have been prepared. It has been found that the resistivity of the gap between central electrode and guard ring is comparable with the resistivity obtained in detectors with engraved guard rings. Application of such guard rings make the work at the detector bias voltage of the order of 300 V/mm feasible, reduces considerably the reverse currents and enables to define precisely the geometrical active region of the detector. The energy resolution obtained for this type detectors with active area of 0.7 cm 2 and thickness of 2.4 mm is 1.26 keV for 14.4 keV gamma radiation and 3.1 keV for 976 keV internal conversion electrons.
