Abstract

The reaction of dicarbonyl- and carbonyl(trimethylphosphine)(cyclopentadienyl)-carbyne complexes of molybdenum and tungsten η 5-C 5H 5(CO) 2− n (PMe 3) n MCR ( n = 0, 1; M = Mo, W; R = CH 3, C 6H 5, C 6H 4CH 3, C 3H 5) with protic nucleophiles HX (X = Cl, CF 3COO, CCl 3COO) leads, through a combined protonation/carbon-carbon coupling reaction, to η 2-acyl complexes η 5-C 5H 5(CO) 1− n X 2(PMe 3) n -M(η 2-COCH 2R). The reaction conditions, the results of the spectroscopic measurements and the X-ray structure of η 5-C 5H 5(CO)(Cl 2)W(η 2-COCH 2CH 3) are reported.
