Abstract

The government-funded Sure Start Local Programmes (SSLPs) emerged in 1999 as multi-agency projects based in communities in disadvantaged areas of England. The aim for them was to improve the wellbeing and life chances of children (aged 0-4 years) and to support their families. By 2004, there were 524 projects. This digest presents key findings from three studies evaluating SSLPs: the national government-funded study and two studies of local projects.
