Abstract

The decomposition of the organothallium compounds (CH 3) 2C(OX)CH 2Tl(OAc) 2 (X = H, CH 3 and C 2H 5) in aqueous solution has been studied. The nature of the major product of decomposition indicates that migration of the OX group takes place during cleavage of the CTl bond. The influence of acidity on the rate of decomposition shows that in acidic media R(OX)Tl 2+ is the principal reactive species.
