Abstract

Abstract Discusses the stratigraphic and tectonic relations of Gotlandian (Silurian) beds in the Paleozoic sequence of the axial zone of the Pyrenees, exposed in the Pique valley, upper Garonne region, France, and concludes that, instead of playing a passive role during the Pyrenean orogeny, Gotlandian carbonaceous shales may have acted as a plastic mass which determined the localization of certain folds in the post-Hercynian cover.
