Abstract

Abstract A sketch map of the tectonics of the Sierra de la Demanda Paleozoic massif and its Mesozoic and Cenozoic cover is presented. Two major units can be distinguished: a western unit in which the cover is closely associated with vertical movements of the basement complex, and an eastern unit in which large vertical and tangential movements of the basement are expressed in large cover folds. Two orogenic phases are--one prior to the upper Oligocene that folded the cover and the other post-Miocene which reactivated the basement faults and steepened the cover folds.
