Abstract

A method for correcting background in the semiquantitative spectrographic analyses is proposed. The method is based on the determination of an “equivalent background”, which can be subtracted from the intensity of a given spectral line in order to obtain the “net intensity” of the line, that is the intensity it should have if the background were not present. For routine work, a series of curves is drawn, which are the graphical translation of the analytical procedure.
