Abstract

The Constitution of Pakistan establishes the Supreme Court, five High Courts ‎and ‎the Federal Shariat Court as part of the Judicature.‎ ‎ Administrative courts ‎and ‎tribunals are established under Article 212 of the Constitution of Pakistan. ‎The ‎Supreme Court of Pakistan is the apex court of the country exercising ‎original, ‎appellate, review and advisory jurisdiction as well as various ‎administrative ‎functions. Article 190 of the Constitution provides that all executive ‎and judicial ‎authorities throughout Pakistan shall act in aid of the Supreme Court. ‎Almost ‎similar powers and functions are exercised by the High Courts at the ‎provincial ‎level, however appeal against the decisions of a High Court lies to the ‎Supreme ‎Court of Pakistan. The jurisdiction of the Federal Shariat Court extends ‎to ‎examining and deciding the question whether or not any law or provision of law ‎is ‎repugnant to the injunctions of Islam, as laid down in the Holy Quran and ‎Sunnah ‎of the Holy Prophet.‎ ‎ ‎ Role, powers and functions of the Chief Justice and Judges of the Supreme Court ‎of Pakistan are described in the Constitution of Pakistan, Supreme Court Rules ‎‎1980 and other Acts.
