Abstract

BackgroundShoulder injuries are common in athletes and weightlifters. We present a unique case series of two young male gym enthusiasts who experience shoulder pain and weakness in external rotation without any specific history of trauma. Case reportFurther investigation confirmed the uncommon diagnosis of posterior labral tear with associated spinoglenoid cyst and suprascapular nerve compression. Both cases were not amenable to ultrasound aspiration and thus subsequently underwent successful early arthroscopic posterior labral repair and cyst decompression. Both patients subsequently made a full recovery following arthroscopic surgery at one year with resolution of pain, restoration of their strength and return to sports and occupation. ConclusionThis report provides insight to the rare condition of suprascapular nerve compression due to spinoglenoid cysts arising from posterior labral tears caused by similar mechanism of injury in two patients and demonstrates good results with early arthroscopic surgery performed for labral repair and cyst decompression in such patients.
