Abstract

Three complexes, [Zn(phen)2(H2O)(2,6-NDS)]2H2O (1), [Zn(phen)2(2,6-NDS)]H2O (2), and [Zn(2,2′-bipy)2(H2O)(2,6-NDS)]3H2O (3) (2,6-NDS = 2,6-naphthalenedisulfonate; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline; 2,2′-bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine), have been obtained by different methods and structurally characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Compound 1 features mononuclear structure with space group P1 and further forms a 2-D supramolecular structure by hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions. Compound 2 displays a mononuclear structure with centrosymmetric space group P 1 and extends into a 1-D supramolecular chain through π–π stacking interactions. Compound 3 is also a mononuclear structure that aggregates into a 2-D supramolecular network through hydrogen bonds. The synthetic method has great influence on the structures of the complexes. The three complexes show photoluminescence.
