Abstract

With Apple-Ⅱ+ compatible microcomputers, digitizer and two TV monitors, we tried to sketch the suppression scotoma in an alternate esotropic subject. The suppression scotoma for avoiding both diplopia and confusion could not be sketched even when the isopter of the visual field had constricted to about 10 degrees with low contrast targets. Static and kinetic VFs had both been done. Bright and dark targets had both been used. We also tried various methods such as the prism to induce diplopia, the prism to induce eyeball movements, the Bagolini lens, the Amsler grid and rotatory prism to prove the existence of these scotomas. We supposed the perception of light is prior to the suppression and in the cellular level, the mechanism of suppression needs further investigation.
