Abstract

Mice systemically challenged with Candida albicans exhibit suppression of in vitro lymphocyte blastogenesis in response to concanavalin A (Con A) and phytohemagglutinin (PHA) 7 but not 14 days after challenge. Such suppression is also evident with specific antigen (PPD) in mice vaccinated with BCG 14, 28, or 42 days prior to systemic challenge with C. albicans. These results indicate that systemic Candida infection is associated with a suppression of lymphocyte blastogenesis.
