Abstract
A novel technique, based on second-harmonic generation and amplification, is proposed that may be applied to the suppression of prepulses in amplifier configurations. Simultaneously, peak-to-satellite contrast ratios may be enhanced, pulse energies may be increased, and pulse durations may be reduced in an amplification scheme that eliminates amplified spontaneous emission.
