Abstract
Four wave mixing (FWM) is one of the most significant cause of nonlinear crosstalk in multiple-channel optical fiber system. Therefore, significant efforts have been made on the development of different techniques to mitigate the effect of FWM. This paper puts efforts towards the suppression of FWM-based fiber impairments in a 3×10 Gb/s orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system. In case of OFDM technique, FWM effect becomes most critical to handle with increasing number of subcarriers. The optical phase conjugation (OPC) technique is among the most appropriate techniques to mitigate the nonlinear effects in an optical link. Further, the performance of the OPC technique is also compared with the existing technique related to polarization of input signals. The results show an improvement in signal quality by 8 dBm suppression of FWM power product in case of 128 subcarriers in comparison to the polarization technique. Further, OPC technique also reduced the FWM power product by 1.5 dBm at higher dispersion rates (>5 ps/nm/km).
