Abstract

We note that in gauge theories of weak and electromagnetic interactions like the standard SU(2) × U(1) model in which all the quarks of each charge have the same gauge properties and get their mass from the vacuum expectation values of a set of scalar mesons with the same gauge properties the “true” Higgs mesons do not mediate flavor changing interactions. Flavor changing effects from other neutral mesons can be suppressed by large meson masses. The masses of the spinless mesons which mediate flavor changing effects can be made arbitrarily large without affecting the structure of the weak interactions.
