Abstract

Write spacing loss has been studied on both the longitudinal and perpendicular rigid disks with a thin film head and a ferrite head. Experimental data show that the write spacing loss measured on a CoCr perpendicular disk with a thin film head is very small up to at least 50 KFCI. The thin film longitudinal disk gives approximately 44 dB Δ d/λ write spacing loss at short wavelengths. Ferrite heads on perpendicular disks produced extremely large write spacing loss well beyond those observed on other head-media combinations. Qualitative explanations will be given for these phenomena.
