Abstract

AIM OF INVESTIGATION: Through the use of evidence-based interventions to reduce pain and anxiety, a pediatric venipuncture experience can be a positive experience free of pain and anxiety. However, children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often present with unique challenges. The purpose of this project was to review evidence and implement standards to ensure even children with ASD have the best possible venipuncture experience including minimizing fear and anxiety. Methods: The project was carried out in a pediatric procedural suite where children routinely receive an IV prior to procedures.
