Abstract

As lesbian, gay and bisexual adolescents, transgender students are are statistically more likely to have poorer mental health, and more prone to risk-taking behaviours, such as alcohol and drug misuse. They are also at an increased risk of bullying. It is therefore important that they are adequately supported in the school environment. This article looks at the challenges transgender children and young people may experience and offers guidance on supporting them.
