Abstract
This chapter highlights key strategies for supporting children’s multilingualism based upon the school’s approach to family outreach and communication. Second, the chapter also describes ways that teachers’ linguistically and culturally responsive communication with families takes into account families’ values, experiences, and histories with multilingualism. Third, it emphasizes how frequent and meaningful communication around the goals, materials, and strategies used in multilingual teaching provides families with an understanding of teachers’ philosophies and curricular approaches for multilingual learning. Fourth, families of children with disabilities benefit from frequent and specific feedback and information on how to support their children’s home-based multilingual learning and development.
