Abstract

The acidity of supported PbO catalysts affects the selectivity of the oxidative coupling of methane to C 2+ hydrocarbons: The higher the catalyst acidity the lower the C 2+ selectivity. γ-alumina, silica and alumino silicate were used as supports. The reaction was carried out at 1013 K and atmospheric pressure, CH 4 : O 2 being 10 : 1. Catalyst acidity was determined by Benesi titration and cyclohexene isomerization activity at 773 K.
