Abstract
A significant amount of research has examined supported employment but little has dealt with the delivery of supported employment services to persons with developmental disabilities who live in rural areas. This study investigated the relationship between demographic variables and job development of persons with developmental disabilities in South Dakota. A survey of job developers at eleven community-based adult service facilities and two major public school systems was conducted. Results are discussed pertaining to the effect of rate of unemployment, percentage of service jobs, and community size on the development of community-based jobs for persons with developmental disabilities.
