Abstract

Following is the text of a letter I have written to Dr. Julius Richmond, Assistant Secretary for Health, Department of Health, Education and Welfare, regarding the problems being encountered by some “2 + 1” graduates who are ASCPcertified medical technologists. I believe, as does the Society's Board of Directors, that this is a serious problem and one that must be solved reasonably, or many highly qualified laboratory professionals will be excluded from practicing their profession. We will pursue this matter with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and keep you informed. In the meantime, if you are encountering this type of problem with state inspectors, or wish to offer your support to those who are, you may wish to contact your Senator or Congressman in this matter.
