Abstract

An investigation of operator requirements for man-machine interfaces of CNC machine tools was performed in 13 enterprises of machine-building industry. For the purpose of a detailed analysis of the empirical data a framework for description is introduced based on Sheridan's supervisory control functions and Rasmussen's model of human performance. Following this framework "cognitive bottlenecks" are identified and design examples for ergonomic support systems are presented.
