Abstract

This paper describes a support sub-system of the CAD system the authors have been developing for the component assignment to functions by effectively using past design cases, where two case retrieval techniques are implemented. The one called 'function flow simplification matching' simplifies the function flow of a case and compares it with the function flow represented by the designer. This matching technique realizes flexible case retrieval and can promote the idea of designers. The other is the utilization of typical component hierarchy data abstracted from past similar plant designs. The data navigates designers to determine the structure step-by-step. The applicability of the component assignment support sub-system is demonstrated by some design trials of a fluidized refuse incineration plant.
