Abstract

The SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act (SUPPORT Act) was passed by the full Congress in 2018 to much fanfare, but not every program created or amended was fully funded. Reauthorization has moved out of the House of Representatives' committee level but awaits a vote by the full chamber. Pressure is growing on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committee to act. The bipartisan law is a comprehensive response to the opioid crisis public health emergency. Formerly known as the Substance Use Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities (SUPPORT) Act, the initiative is up for reauthorization. There is a House of Representatives committee‐passed version, which includes many provisions supported by various organizations.
