Abstract

MANY investigations have demonstrated that soybean oil meal supports a rapid rate of growth in chicks when it is supplemented with an APF supplement in the form of a concentrate or with crystalline vitamin B12. The reports on the value of animal protein as a source of the animal protein factor for growing turkeys are relatively few, and those available are somewhat conflicting.Headly (1944) and Brant et al. (1944) obtained a normal rate of growth in turkeys with a small amount of animal protein in the diet. Bird, Marsden and Kellogg (1948) and Bird, Marsden, Groschke and Lillie (1948) reported that diets which contained 6% of fish meal were superior to those which contained soybean meal as the only source of protein. The turkeys which had received fish meal were heavier at 6 weeks and also at 18 to 22 weeks. When meat meal was sustituted for fish meal .
