Abstract

Liquid-liquid equilibrium phase compositions have been measured for mixtures of petroleum pitch and toluene at temperatures of 597 and 638 K and pressures from 46 to 155 bar. The experimental data were correlated using the SAFT equation of state, with the concepts of continuous thermodynamics being used to generate the necessary pseudocomponents. Despite the availability of only limited pitch characterization data, the model reasonably represents the liquid-liquid equilibria for this complex system.
