Abstract

Using a sample of 205 subordinate-supervisor dyads in a high-tech communication company, we examined the link between supervisors’ mentoring and employees’ feedback seeking. We also examined the moderating role of political skill and power distance. Results showed that supervisory mentoring was positively related to feedback seeking from supervisors. In addition, power distance moderated the positive relationship between supervisor mentoring and feedback seeking in such a way that the relationship was stronger for people higher, rather than lower, in power distance. Political skill moderated the relationship between supervisor mentoring and feedback seeking in such a way that the relationship was stronger for people with higher rather than lower levels of political skill.
