Abstract
This work presents a simple modeling technique for commanding the optimal operation of heat exchanger networks. The proposed representation provides all the necessary relationships to define an optimizing supervisory system aimed to determine the most convenient set points of a multiloop control structure at any instant. The modeling approach used for the optimization emphasizes the computation of heat exchanger duties rather than net work intermediate temperatures, this simplifies the modeling step since all the conditions can be written by simple inspection of the network structure, and reduces the computational work.
