Abstract
This article describes the use of reflection to enhance midwives confidence and competence in clinical practice. The importance of reflective practice in midwifery is well documented and it has been demonstrated that guided reflection, set within the context of a framework of statutory supervision of midwives, strengthens professional learning by demonstrating continuing professional development. The author believes that supervisors of midwives are ideally placed to lead the development and implementation of guided reflection in practice as a tool to enable midwives evaluate their practice and identify areas for development. This paper focuses on supervision of midwifery as a vehicle for introducing Reflective Practice.
