Abstract

The effect of GeO 2 addition on the superplasticity flow and tensile ductility in TZP was examined. ZrO 2 -2.5mol%Y 2 O 3 -1 .Omol% GeO, (TZP-1Ge) exhibits lower flow stress and larger tensile elongation than ZrO 2 -2.5mol%Y 2 O 3 (2.5Y-TZP) in a temperature range of 1200 and 1550°C. This reduction in flow stress is mainly caused b. a reduction in activation energy for plastic flow. Cation's diffusivity must be enhanced by the presence of GeO 2 in TZP. The enhanced ductility in TZP-1Ge can be explained by the reduction in flow stress.
