Abstract

The new commercial Cu-Zn based alloys having excellent hot workability and shape memory effects have been developed. Higher than 200% elongation was observed in the hot tensile test with the alloy sample containing Cu-38Zn-1.9Sn-1.9mass%Pb at the temperature range from 773K to 873K with the initial strain rate of 8.3×10 -4 s -1 . The stress-strain curve showed the typical type of superplastic deformation. After heat treatment of the developed alloys at 1073K, they showed shape memory effects(SME). The transformation temperatures of samples were measured by electric resistance, and found to be Ms=119K, Mf=96K, As=105K, Af=129K. From the width of hysteresis about 15K, the formation of thermoelastic martensite has been confirmed.
