Abstract

We present a study of a synthetic Fe-substituted calcium silicate hydrate (CSH), a constituent of cement paste, using 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. The observed behaviour is characteristic of antiferromagnetic nanometric particles undergoing superparamagnetic fluctuations. The relevance of these findings with respect to the understanding of CSH crystal structure and microstructure is discussed briefly.
