Abstract If a supernova remnant draws its energy from a rotating neutron star, the total luminosity should decrease about 4 times faster than the rotation period of the central star. Parameters for the pulsar in Cas A (if there is one) are derived as a function of the luminosity and luminosity change. The same considerations could have given the parameters of the neutron star in the Crab before the discovery of the pulsar NP 0531. Some general remarks are made concerning the coupling of the stellar rotation with the nebular remnant.
