Abstract

Although there are very many metallic superconductors, it has not been possible to show that any of them is a direct analog of the superfluid state found in the fermionic isotope of helium (He). In his Perspective, Rice highlights the report by Nelson et al., who show that such an analog exists. The authors performed a special quantum interference experiment to establish the quantum mechanical state of the electron pairs in the superconducting phase of strontium ruthenate. They confirm that it is the long-sought analog of superfluidHe.
