Abstract

Marco Gasparotti, MD, Rome, Italy , is a plastic surgeon and an ASAPS corresponding member. I perform superficial liposuction on about 85% of my patients. Removing fat from the superficial compartment allows the surgeon to have better control in redefining the body contour. In addition, for older patients with flaccid skin and for patients with deep hip roll and lateral femoral deformities, I believe that superficial liposuctioning is absolutely necessary for effective treatment. The superficial liposuction technique works so well for young or older patients with flaccid skin because of its unique ability to promote skin retraction. Reducing the superficial layer of fat leaves the cutaneous adipose layer very thin and light.
