Abstract
We report the results of amorphous Nb 81Si 19 and Nb 77Si 23 alloys annealed at high pressure but at a pressure lower than that used to synthesize single-phase A15 Nb 3Si. The lower pressure gives rise to the decomposition of the alloys into a multi-phase state consisting of A15 Nb 3Si, Γ-Nb 5Si 3, L1 2-type Nb 3Si and Nb. The lattice constants are smaller and T c higher than those obtained for the single-phase samples. We predict the T c of stoichiometric A15 Nb 3Si to be 25 K.
