Abstract

We have grown single-crystal like MgB2 thin films on (0001) Al2O3 substrates by hybrid physical–chemical vapor deposition technique. The microstructures of single-crystal quality of MgB2 thin films were studied by a transmission electron microscopy and a selected area electron diffraction pattern (SAED). The SAED pattern of the cross section shows the phase pure in the MgB2 thin film. The magnetic field dependence of the critical current density (Jc) was reflected to be a very weak pinning behavior at high fields as similar to that of MgB2 single-crystal.
