Abstract

The effect of Mo concentration on the superconducting properties and structure of Bi 1.6Pb 0.4Sr 2Ca 2(Cu 3- x Mo x )O y with 0.05≤ x≤0.3 were investigated by resistance and AC susceptibility measurements as well as by X-ray diffraction experiments. It is found that the volume fraction of the high- T c phase ( T c > 100 K) determined by AC susceptibilities and the X-ray powder diffraction pattern increases with an increase of Mo concentration and that this substitution depresses the T c of this system slightly. Our results also indicate that the nonmagnetic impurity also lowers the optimum firing temperature to produce the high- T c phase.
